In order to mark the beginning of the national Disability History Month (22nd November -22nd December), the History Faculty will run a workshop to promote the study of Disability History in the university.

09:25am - Welcome 

09:30am -  Vicky Hope-Walker, National Paralympic Heritage Trust – history of Paralympics, Dr Guttmann, and its impact on the disability sector

10:05am - Richard Calver, optometrist and former UG student – 'Making a Public Spectacle: an Undergraduate Thesis on Spectacle-Wearing in the Eighteenth Century

10:35am - Break and coffee

11:00am - Claire O’Mahony, Continuing Education - Material culture: Teaching resources for design histories around disability

11:35am - Vicky Drew (DAS) and Jane Taylor (CTL) – An inclusive teaching perspective on supporting disabled students

12:15pm - Jude Barrett (Ashmolean) – Museum learning and accessibility

12:45pm - Closing comments followed by lunch

The workshop is open to all university members and staff. There will be no charge for attendance, but registration is necessary to aid the organisation of the event, and to ensure that we can accommodate any personal needs.
