The University of Oxford’s Astrophoria Foundation Year is a one-year fully-funded foundation programme for state school students with the ambition and potential to thrive on an Oxford undergraduate degree programme, who are unable to apply directly because of significant personal and educational disadvantage. All students who pass the Foundation Year are awarded the Foundation Year Certificate in Higher Education (CertHE) qualification. For those passing at a required level, admission to their chosen undergraduate degree course at Oxford is automatic. The Humanities Astrophoria Foundation Year offers three courses for those seeking to study history at undergraduate level: History; Ancient and Modern History; History and English.

In June 2024, Astrophoria Foundation Year celebrated the first cohort of students completing their courses. Among these, ten Humanities students are progressing and will be starting their chosen Oxford University undergraduate course this week, with four taking History and one taking Ancient and Modern History. Meanwhile, the Foundation Year Humanities team are excited to be welcoming ten new Foundation Year students including five historians for the 2024/25 academic year.
